Careless Wisper

This was without question My weakest performance int he class. While I managed to meet the requirements, it lacked substance which led to a lack of time.

The award was the boldest of all the wards presented. However for such a bold award I played it too safe, and didn't even get close to a line that could be toed. This was the biggest weakness was not really making anything unique about a unique topic. But as with all drag queens, sometimes you have to learn to walk in a broken heel. And I think I managed to walk just fine.

Cause this is Thriller....

I presented a slide show to the class on the topic of Michael Jackson's Thriller album celebrating its 25th anniversary. What is arguably the most substantial album anniversary in history in terms of market value I felt the topic and time was appropriate to present it. Also I knew more than enough information on the artist and the work that I knew I would be able to put forth a successful and convincing presentation.
The main goal for me was similar to the main marketing goal of MJJ Productions. It was to remind people of who Michael is. To steer clear of the maddens and focus on the genius. To focus on the work itself. By presenting images of him as he was at his highest moment, a height none have come close to since. I felt this was very successful. Also notably the information that I presented managed to sell the idea of the importance of the album and its anniversary as I was able to spar conversation on the body of work. I was able to sell an album that had been on sale for 25 years. That's a success.
The only notable flaw was the color scheme some suggested did not work, however I respectfully disagree and found it to work just fine. This presentation allowed me to manage and crunch a large amount of culture and information into a limited five slides. It taught me to sacrifice certain items in exchange for others. I needed to successfully start out at a time 25 years ago and bring it all twenty five years forward.
The part I was luckiest with was that the work and topic sold itself. The album is timeless and the greatest selling album of all time, 104 million units sold, so people were already familiar with it. Now it was just reminding them of its importance and significance in the music world today. A world that would be very different if it wasn't for Michael Jackson and this thrilling album.

So check out the show and if you enjoy it feel free to re-live the magic and the music that revolutionized the music industry like no other album and visit www.michaeljackson.com for historic music videos, songs and then buy the new album!

Speaking Out Loud And Saying Nothing

As a politico-obsessive I am easily and frequently annoyed with people who do not understand the topics they defend or even more so annoyingly the topics they don't support, and disregard with little to no reasoning other than simplistic ignorance.
This is not to say that all people of one-sided business or loyalty infuriate me. I understand, and am huge supporters of communicators like Bill O'Reilly and Michael Moore, two men who couldn't be furhter from one another in political views, they are educated on their stances, as opposed to most who couldn't give a reason if they were given time to find one. People such as O'Reilly and Moore know why they support what they support, and why they are against what they are against. By listening to both of them, as well as many others, and reading materials from all different parties and mediums, I can confidently say that I have educated views and reasoning just like them.
Through this pet-peeve speech I feel as though i communicated my annoyance with such people quite well and built a strong case to display that I am not one of the types of people that tend to annoy myself. Also I managed to dispel the rumor that I myself am thought to be a major left-winged narrow minded democrat, however as I told I am a huge fan of FOX News and tend to understand and find more consistent the conservative personalities than liberal ones.
I did feel as though my conclusion fell flat, but that is something to work on for another day and something I realized right away. As a matter of fact, the second I heard the ending words slip from my mouth all I could think was, "Oh just shut up kid." I hated it, but I know that I can and will be able to provide a stronger ending next time. I know that it is the ending that makes or breaks the case, that's why lawyers are given closing statements. You could have the whole jury already against you, and in just a few short sentences at the end of a year long high profile trial, change the direction when it matters most.

Reagan Pushes Optimism

I was slightly farmiliar with President Reagan's first inaugural address from Chris Matthew's book, Life is a Campaign, in which he mentions it in a chapter about public speaking. I knew the key points and ideas of the speech going into it and understood how President Reagan was as a politicain so I was able to understand his goals and ambitions.

Inaguaral adresses in general hold a high standard and President Reagan was going into office facing high expectations. He had to make his case and assure the people that everything would be allright. Interestingly enough as he claimed for the factory workers and common man to be hero's his presidency would prove to be a blow to those veryy people, creating a deficit. SO it was interesting to view this speech after his legacy ha already been built.

I felt I understood what he was trying to convey and managed to convey it myself with emphisisng his true goals. In jsut picking up on his words like how he would constantly refere to "we" as aposed to you. It was a speech about "us," putting himself on the people's level, saying he was no greater. Also managing to emphasize his idealistic views on being able to dream again, and being able to be the nation of innovation. All of his goals I successfully cnveyed and got accross. My one weakness would be having glanced at the paper durring some of the suplemental parts.

Its always facinating to read speeches by people whow ere the best in the business, to see what made them who they are. What were they saying differently than the other guy that got them where they are? For Preisident Reagan it was his sense of optimism that launched him into a Republican icon. THe history behind these speeches are vital to us all as memebers of a free society. It reminds us of how lucky we are, and how much we have, and still have to achieve.

Make It Work

People seemed uncertain of what to do with their hands and overall body language at moments through out their speeches. There was also some uncetainty in people's voices with their facts,a s if we doubted the information we had. Through our body language and tone we seemed to convey doubt.

I am used to speaking about myself and the work that I have dedicated my life to which made speaking predominantly about others a bit foreign to me. I should have reviewd my notes and that would have made me feel more confident in what I was presenting. WHile my speech was the longest I by no means view it as a negative. Last week I had to give several speeches on Gay rights and at some of the speeches I had to reduce my time from 15 mins to 5 mins justas I hit the stage and was told how much time I had. Next week I'll be giving two speeches in New York City each totaling fourty five minutes. I am more than capable of varying a speeches length and adjusting to the situation. I jsut need to remind myself of my goals and to make it personal.
